Saving Money Is not Always the main Goal

There is a lot to consider and consider when you’re establishing your business.  One of your biggest concerns is the amount of money everything is going to cost you. Your web page is going to cost money. Buying advertising should cost money. Finding someone that will help you with things will cost lots of money. It might be extremely tempting to cut corners.  It is more than likely that you are planning to be trying to figure out at least a few different ways that you can cut costs but sometimes doing this can hurt you. It could be extremely detrimental. The most significant thing you can do that can put yourself at risk is to violate copyright and intellectual property laws. Here are a few examples of this.

Stealing the design of someone’s website. It is one thing to obtain a free theme for your website or to work with a free website builder. Totally stealing another individual’s design, however, is a truly terrible idea. Sure the online world is a large place and the likelihood of the original designer ever finding out that you’ve stolen the design might be small, you still shouldn’t do it. If you genuinely love the design and desire to use it for yourself, just contact the designer or the owner of the website and ask for permission to either employ that design on your own site or blog or ask the designer if he or she could put together a new design for you (be sure to ask for the price).

Putting up graphics and pictures not having authorization. Just because you discover a graphic or photo during a Google image search does not necessarily mean that that graphic or photo is part of the public domain. When Google indexes an photo, they put up a url to the first website on which that image is found.  This is fine. Posting the photo or graphic on your own site before you get permission from the operator or the creator, however, is a violation of copyright law. If the owner finds this, you might get sued. You must always acquire permission to use the graphic before you actually put it up. You may be charged some cash but it is sure to be less than you would have to pay after getting sued. If you’re low on funds you could do a search for free images or Creative Commons licenses that permit commercial use. Those are absolutely fine for the public to use.

Copying somebody’s published content. If you want to use another person’s content on your own website, it is very important that you give credit to the original author. If you replicate the content from another web page, just be sure you link back to that site. This helps you get favor from the primary author. If you do not supply credit or hyperlinks to the original author, you can get in substantial trouble for copyright infringement and intellectual property theft. It will cost much more to fund the infringement than it would run you to merely give proper credit or to hire someone to create something new for you.

It is obviously better to err on the side of caution when it comes to building your business. Sure you want to save money but make sure that you are using legal means for those savings. When you don’t, the cost you will be dealing with will be a great deal more than it would have been otherwise.
